May 7, 2011: L’Etape du California

Five brave members of the CSBG participated in yesterday’s L’Etape du California, an opportunity for serious amateur cyclists to ride the same Stage 7 route the pros will ride in the upcoming Tour of California. The route begins in Claremont and ends at the Mt. Baldy ski area, covering more than 75 miles and 10,000 feet of climbing. Some of the riders then rode the harrowing steep descent down the mountain back to Claremont, where all of them received their medal and enjoyed a delicious pasta meal catered by Buca de Beppo. Congratulations to all of our CSBG riders for a ride WELL DONE!

Numerous CSBG members volunteered at Friday’s rider check-in, and on Saturday handing out goody bags, water bottles and medals, answering questions, and providing support and good cheer to the riders. In return, each volunteer received a t-shirt to wear during the event.

New Year’s Day 2011: Ride to the Rose Parade

View of one of the Rose Parade floatsThis year’s annual ride to the Rose Parade included 13 CSBG  riders who mingled with almost that many more from the Covina Cycle Club. The route is about 35 miles round-trip from Covina Park to the end of the parade route at Maple St. and Sierra Madre Blvd.

After the parade, the riders enjoyed brunch at Nano Cafe in Monrovia (on Duarte Rd. just east of Mayflower). Randy Miller knew of the restaurant and alerted them we were coming. They opened a parking area for our bikes and closed it after we parked. We were served very well in their group dining area and the menu was good. Their main restaurant area is in a nearby room and was nearly filled. The food and service were excellent, and the group looks forward to stopping there again.

Yet another beautiful sunny New Year’s Day in Southern California!
